Student-Led Conferences (formerly Parent-Teacher Conferences)
When: Monday, October 23, 12:00 noon to 17:00.
Conferences are coming, and we are excited to announce a different format! Student-Led Conferences empower students to take an active, engaged role in their learning by reflecting on what and how they have learned and sharing their reflections and artifacts with their parents. Students are building their portfolios in preparation for conferences--we hope to see you there!
Student-Led Conference Format: Students will sit down with their advisory or homeroom teacher and their parent(s). The students will then talk about each of their classes - presenting artifacts and discussing their personal reflection about their learning. While the students are sharing their work, parents and teacher should hold their questions. At the end, parents and teachers may ask questions to dig into the student’s reflection and further push their thinking.
The students select the artifacts and the reflection questions, but some reflection questions may include:
What went well for you in this class?
Why is this artifact meaningful to you?
What did you learn from the lessons that resulted in this artifact?
What are you still struggling with in this class?
How would you like to improve as a student in this class?
How has this class changed your thinking?
Parents and Teachers might follow up with questions like these:
What was the most important thing that you took away from the unit that this artifact was a part of?
What changes do you need to make in your study habits to continue to improve in this class?
What is the thing that you’d most like to learn more about related to this class or artifact?
How do you think this might apply to your life, now or in the future?
We ask that all parents take the necessary 30 minutes to sit down with their child and their advisory / homeroom teacher. This is an important part of the learning process. To schedule your appointment time, please contact Ms. Ching Wang.
